Certified massage therapist Rebecca Costello spoke to AMBUCS at Ryan's Family Steak House in Aiken. She demonstrated a relaxed standing posture, discussed benefits of massage, and stressed daily 20 minute relaxation. A member won a free massage and AMBUCS promotes independence for people with disabilities.

Community honors Harriett Skinner for 30 years at Aiken Electric
The Aiken County Council unanimously approved a resolution praising Harriett Skinner on her retirement after more than three decades with Aiken Electric Cooperative. As communications coordinator she led home economics workshops, cooking demos, and civic projects. Skinner serves as Area 8 lieutenant governor for Rotary, helped with WIRE, Palmetto Society, foster care liaison work, and supported the Chamber expo.

Veterans Memorial Park target date set for Veterans Day
The Aiken County Veterans Memorial Park aims for completion on Veterans Day November 11 1998. Finance chair Ed Hammons says 95000 still needed to finish construction. total raised stands at 126549.45. Bricks with donor names or honorees cost 100 each at area banks. A large Black Belfast granite monument from India will arrive soon and be carved to honor county veterans killed in action. Contract awarded to replace bridges near Graniteville
A 345 087 contract awarded by the South Carolina Department of Transportation funds replacement of a deficient bridge on Secondary Road 104 northwest of Graniteville in Aiken County. Triplett Peek Inc of Chester wins the bid to build a 98.4 foot reinforced concrete and structural steel bridge over Little Horse Creek and surface .05 mile of approaches with asphalt concrete. Work expected complete by Oct 31.

Growth at People's Bank Surges in Six Months
People's Community Capital Corp reports assets exceed 27.2 million after just over six months of operation. Chairman Tommy B. Wessinger notes local focus appeals to customers. Net loans rise 97 percent to 7.68 million and deposits up 52 percent to 17.8 million since December. First quarter shows an 88 thousand loss after tax benefits 56 thousand and loan loss provisions 60 thousand, or nine cents per share.
