Volunteer profiles Mildred Karraker a lifelong helper in Aiken
The private volunteer Mildred Karraker moved to Aiken nearly 30 years ago from Oak Ridge via Chicago and Berkeley. A former Girl Scout leader and Cancer Society Patient Services Chairman, she helped locate beds and wheelchairs, arranged transport to clinics, and traveled for the National Breast Screening Project. Now vice president of the Cancer Society, she remains active on local boards and in community events while emphasizing that giving back matters more than a tidy home.
