Oral and poster winners announced at USC Discovery Day

Four students Angela Arthur Kim Dunlap Michelle Killian and Krista Lange won Magellan Scholarships from the University of South Carolina and will take part in Discovery Day later this month. Oral winners include Laken Hensley Michelle Killian and Kevin Kinsey Caitlan Bell. Poster runners up Krista Lange Justin Gavin Joshua Nesbitt.

USC Aiken eighth graders to pilot Edgewood history curriculum

Lauren Stephens, a junior and former Research Day gold medalist, leads a pilot social studies curriculum based on the documentary Edgewood Stage of Southern History. The project, tying slavery and women's suffrage to a 180 year history, will launch at Leavelle McCampbell Middle School with eighth graders this month.

Hit-and-run suspect surrenders after weekend chase

Nasadeam E. Stewart 19 of Sabra Avenue turned himself in to police. He faces five counts of hit and run and five counts of failing to render aid plus speeding and no driver’s license charges. The April 10 chase on U S 278 in Beech Island ended with injuries to four victims and charges pressed by state troopers and the sheriff's office. Stewart was booked and released on bond.

Fatal Motorcycle Crash Investigated In Aiken

Aiken Public Safety investigates a fatal crash on Marlboro Street. Douglas Drew Allen, 20, operated a 2005 Big Dawg motorcycle and died after leaving Marlboro Station. Alcohol suspected, toxicology pending. 10th fatal crash in Aiken County this year.
