Helping Hands marks 30 years of helping kids
Helping Hands celebrated a milestone with community leaders and volunteers marking its 80-year anniversary as the 24-hour emergency shelter for abused and neglected children. Board President Mary Jo Herring described nine years of service, including playing cards, baths, and rocking babies, and expressed hope for another 30 years of service in Aiken County. In 2002 the shelter housed 65 children from Aiken and nearby counties, totaling 158 for the year with 59 ages birth to 12, 58 teen girls, and 41 teen boys.
