Puncture injury at SRNS glovebox prompts safety reviews
A Savannah River Site employee suffered a hand puncture while removing a degraded gasket inside a Tritium Facility glovebox using an O-ring extraction tool. Bioassay showed tritium exposure well below limits. The Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board urged fixes including tool control, a new O-ring removal tool, and a dedicated fixture to reduce hand injuries. SRNS is implementing the board’s safety recommendations.

MOX Study Delayed As DOE Gathers Alternatives
The first of two MOX program studies for Savannah River Site is delayed with release expected soon. The 65 percent complete Mixed Oxide Fuel Fabrication Facility is part of a Russia US nonproliferation accord to dispose of 34 metric tons of weapons grade plutonium. DOE chose Aerospace to lead the independent study, but officials have not released results, and attempts to reach DOE and NNSA were unanswered.
