Local events fill a busy weekend with music arts and community service. The Battle of the Bands at USC Aiken Convocation Center features $12 tickets. Olde Towne Artisans Fair runs today through Sunday in North Augusta Living History Park. Aiken Community Playhouse presents Leading Ladies with shows through May 1. Other activities include Earth Day Expo at Bettis Academy, USC Aiken research day, Western I film at ACA, Stampin Up card class, National Health Care Decisions Day talk, Liberty HomeCare event, karaoke at Iron Horse Bar, Lifelong Learning meeting at USC Aiken, Aiken Republican Club meeting, Run for a Reason charity run, First Tee CPR training, and more. The Savannah Riverkeeper Teenkeeper program runs Saturday and Sunday with boat rides on the Canal Petersburg boats and the Island Express Riverboat. Participants will learn wildlife and plant species, water quality testing, active research, and water cleanliness techniques. The $75 fee covers 40 students, with limited scholarships. A River Runs Through It follows Norman Maclean’s early 20th century life in the Rocky Mountains. Based on his logging camp summers and service in the U.S. Forest Service, the two novellas and a short story capture a young man’s encounter with work, art, and the beauty of reality.
Weekly menus show breakfast and lunch options for Aiken and Edgefield counties during April 1923. Edgefield lists daily meals with items such as waffle sticks and breakfast pizza. lunches include chicken fillet buns, ham and cheese, chicken rings, baked potato with ham, hot dog and chili. Prices are given for elementary and middle/high meals with reduced rates.
