County opposes House bill granting power to elected officials
Aiken County Council unanimously passed a resolution opposing a House bill that would give elected officers full budget control and autonomy from county administrators. The measure would empower probate judges treasurers clerks of court sheriffs and others while limiting home rule and allowing direct dealings with state agencies. The SCAC memo notes budget authority would apply to several offices though the school chief would be exempt.
