65 Arrested In County Drug Sting

A multi jurisdiction undercover narcotics operation named Safe Streets led to 65 arrests across Aiken and surrounding counties. The five month sting produced 153 charges and included police, sheriff, fire departments, Highway Patrol and State Enforcement Division. It was described as the largest such operation in 23 years since a 1971 bust.

Aiken Considers Change to Sewer Billing System

City Manager Steven Thompson said Aiken may switch how sewer charges are computed this fall to address resident complaints about fairness. The current ordinance bases sewer bills on December February water usage, but meter readings vary, prompting some to argue November usage should be excluded. The change would depend on dumping fee costs and could raise some bills while reducing others.

Clintons Pay Federal Taxes On 1993 Income

President Clinton and Hillary Rodham Clinton paid 62,670 in federal taxes on 293,757 adjusted gross income in 1993. DOE Seeks Disposal Sites for Low Level Waste

The Energy Department says nearly half of its 49 weapons plant and research sites producing low level mixed waste are unsuitable for permanent burial. 26 remain under review including Savannah River Site.
