Corpus Christi AP reports twelve men died when a saucer like survival capsule sank in the Gulf of Mexico after an offshore platform overturned in 15 foot seas. Coast Guard divers found bodies inside the flooded capsule as they explored the wreckage.
Ohio Secretary of State Ted W. Brown ruled Reagan and Wallace may appear on the June 8 statewide primary ballot after reviewing appeals. Both candidates met the required 1,000 signatures on nomination petitions, despite earlier disqualification for insufficient signatures.
Jimmy Carter accuses Senator Henry M. Jackson of distorting his position on right to work laws and labor issues. He says union workers have turned against him in his Democratic nomination bid. Carter spoke to about 300 at a farm rally near Harrisburg Pennsylvania as Reagan campaigns in Texas and Ford plans visits to Indiana and Georgia ahead of May primaries.
The Justice Department, filing the first two suits under the 1974 federal housing law, accuses Jefferson Mortgage Corp of Cherry Hill New Jersey and Prudential Federal Savings and Loan Association of Salt Lake City Utah of discriminating against women and their families in home mortgage loans. William Holmes defeated incumbent R E Boyles in Allendale Tuesday to become the first black mayor in Allendale County. Holmes, an engineer at the Savannah River Plant, won 601 votes to Boyles 563. Boyles has served 22 years on the Town Council, 12 as mayor.
