May 8 execution date set for cop killer in Orangeburg
A man named Thomas Ivey faces an May 8 execution date for the 16 year old murder of an Orangeburg police officer who was shot six times during a mall theft investigation. His lawyers plan to appeal to the U S Supreme Court claiming prior counsel was incompetent and that prosecutors overstated inmate privileges while behind bars. Ivey escaped from a Clayton Alabama jail days before arriving in South Carolina in January 1993.

Inmate Escapes by Stolen SUV in South Carolina
South Carolina inmate Robert Alan Eagan escaped from a work assignment at the Horry County Solid Waste Authority by stealing a county owned 1996 white Chevy Suburban. He was last seen heading north on Highway 90. Eagan, 25, had been in the J Reuben Long Detention Center less than a week.
