Two Aiken Middle School students, a 13-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl, pleaded guilty to criminal conspiracy to kill a teacher. They were placed under 45 days of house arrest or until a community evaluation is completed, with supervision by parents or an adult at all times.
The Aiken City Council approved a two car garage and potting shed behind the Edward P. Stoney cottage after delays and a Board of Zoning Appeals vote. Jane Vaughters opposed the variance, prompting a complaint to the State Ethics Commission that officials say they cannot confirm yet.

Andrea White and Ronald Mobley, both Savannah residents aged 48 and 45, were arrested after a local resident reported a scam at the Laurens Street post office involving a fake African attorney letter promising a $150,000 inheritance. The pair showed cash and pressed for a bank account but did not obtain information.
The North and South Carolina repeat offender James Douglas Smith, 47, of Bennettsville, is tied to a late 1980s Nissan 300ZX seen leaving an Atlanta bank after a Thursday robbery. Witnesses and FBI say he may be connected to five other holdups this month including Raleigh and Florence banks.
