In observance of the 86th anniversary of the Titanic sinking associate editor Don Law examines the ship’s passenger list for ties to Aiken including survivors and victims, while the film revival draws renewed interest.
The Aiken City Council approved an RFP to electric suppliers for renewing or selecting a new provider. City Manager Steve Thompson notes the plan covers existing, annexed, developing, and industrial areas with single use franchise terms and provisions on underground lines and street lighting. Aiken 20/20 chairman Dean Sackett thanked donors at a morning meeting for contributions to the organization. Diane Mangiante said GALEE grants to GALEF total $254,420 supporting programs like 1-1 Cable Line literacy initiatives and Pinecrest Parenting Program and school aid.

They moved Laurens Street sidewalk work to start sooner due to safety concerns and approved a $264,000 process for the 1998 fiscal year beginning in October.
