In Nottingham England AP a couple John and Helen Costello and their three daughters fled subsidized housing alleging supernatural forces. They seek another government home as they are homeless. The city refused. Judge Sir Michael Patrick Nolan will allow a full High Court hearing though the case is highly unusual. No date set.

Bradberry Slaying Linked to Drug Dealing Trial Ordered

Aiken County investigator testified that Bradberry arranged the December 1982 shotgun killing of his wife Anda to prevent her from revealing his drug dealing. Witness Joe Floyd, half-brother to a defendant, said Floyd heard Porky Bradberry discuss the contract. Four defendants face trial despite defense claims of lack of probable cause. one is charged as an accessory, others with kidnapping and robbery. Mrs Bradberry was found slain in her car on New Holland Road.

Trade Deficit Triggers Wall Street Slide in February

The February U.S. trade deficit widened to 13.8 billion dollars, the largest shortfall since October, prompting a sharp stock market drop. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 37.30 points to 2069.79 as the NYSE showed 91 advances, 1160 declines, and 203 unchanged with total volume at 32.71 million shares.

U S Trade Balance in February Shows Widening Gap

The Commerce Department reported February trade deficit at 156.2 billion dollars, worse than last year’s second-highest level. Imports rose by 2.3 billion, led by electrical equipment and auto parts, while exports increased by 1.3 billion from January.

U S Ship Hits Persian Gulf Mine

The U S Navy frigate USS Samuel B Roberts was damaged by an underwater explosion in the central Persian Gulf about 70 miles east of Bahrain near Farsi Island. Four sailors were injured but not fatally, the Pentagon said, with the ship pumping out water and operating on auxiliary power as USS Wainwright heads to assist. The cause was unknown and no mine-sweeping reports had been received.

Troop Withdrawal Agreement Signed at Geneva

A four power accord was signed by the United States, Soviet Union, Afghanistan, and Pakistan to withdraw about 115000 Soviet troops from Afghanistan. The ceremony at the UN in Geneva included George P. Shultz Eduard Shevardnadze Abdul Wakil and Zain Noorani as guarantors of the pact after six years of talks.

A two day SRP plant tour for bidders ends today as a DOE task force also evaluates SRP for a possible new production reactor to supply tritium for nuclear weapons.
