Aiken County Finance Director James A. Donovan faced a four member move to fire him for insubordination. After an executive session the board announced the county remains intact and differences are resolved, with Donovan remaining in office.
Bobby Fischer says he wants to discuss a world title match with Anatoly Karpov of the Soviet Union. Florencio Campomanes, deputy president of FIDE, reported Fischer telephoned from Pasadena, California, saying he wished to talk seriously with Karpov about the proposed match.
John B. Connally’s defense argues the main witness Jacobsen is untrustworthy and tainted, asking Judge Hart to direct an acquittal on the bribery charges. Jacobsen testified that Connally took two illegal $5,000 gifts to help raise milk prices in 1971.
