In Bangkok a 20 year old student, Duangporn Chitchai, pulled a 6 foot pet python from her bag to scare off a man she says tried to rape her. Police said Boonchai Sirithangarat, 27, was charged with minor assault after the incident.
Washington AP reports the 1986 total crime level edged down by 1.9 percent to 34.2 million. Assaults, personal thefts and household larcenies fell, while rapes, robberies and burglaries rose, according to a federal Bureau of Justice Statistics survey.
