Tourism Turns Into Year-Round Business in South Carolina

Tourism is the second-largest employer in South Carolina and officials forecast an 8 percent spending rise this year. After rising 19 percent last year, officials project 8.8 percent growth over 1987, with about 30 million visitors spending around $4.2 billion. City approves horse zoning and parkway plan in Aiken

Aiken City Council approved R-1H zoning allowing horses by right on newly annexed single family lots of at least one acre with three horses on the first acre and one per half acre thereafter. The panel also endorsed Laurel Creek retirement community on 93 acres north of Woodside, with 244 dwellings and PUD rezoning. Interpretive parkway walkways were tabled for further study.
