Morning birth in tub surprises Alabama teen mother
Shardonda Ellis woke with severe cramps at her Salley home on March 12 and delivered her full term baby girl Heaven Nevaeh DeLicia Rivers in the bathtub. She tied and cut the cord with her brother’s shoelace while her mother called 911. Paramedics arrived, the infant weighed seven pounds and both survived. Heaven's father, Jeff Rivers, serves in the Army in Hawaii and will meet his daughter this summer.

Mead Hall Strawberry Festival Returns to Aiken Streets
The Mead Hall PTO plans the annual Strawberry Festival in downtown Aiken on May 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 129 Pendleton St. S.W. Volunteers from the school and St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church will run crafts, vendor ads, food stands, games, and a strawberry pie eating contest. Local safety from Aiken Public Safety will provide a fire truck for kids, with activities including an inflatable obstacle course and sack and three leg races. Strawberries from Gurosik's Berry Plantation will be used in ice cream and pound cake desserts sold at the bake sale and ice cream booth.
