Red Cross seeks volunteers for active disaster relief work
Jeremy 901 Stat writer reports Aiken County Red Cross seeks more volunteers amid war in Iraq and coming hurricane season. Chapter manager Dave McRae notes 450 trained disaster relief volunteers with only about 100 currently active, aims to reach five times that number for a robust program. The chapter handles Armed Forces Emergency Reports and evac shelter staffing, with about 1,000 AFES cases expected in 2008 and 6,900 evacuees to aid during hurricanes. Blood drives and fire victim aid are ongoing, with 246 people helped by 74 house fires last year. Contact the Aiken County chapter at 641-4152.
