Army screens 2000 drugs for SARS treatment search
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases funds testing 30 antiviral drugs, 800 existing used drugs, and 1,000 in development at Fort Detrick to find immediate SARS therapies. The Army lab can test 150 to 200 drugs weekly, with early results seen as unlikely. A Virginia team plans trials of a two-drug strategy, amid skepticism.

Blood study links hardened arteries to vein clots now found
Italian researchers report patients hospitalized with unexplained deep vein clots are nearly 2 1/2 times more likely to have atherosclerosis than those with clots from other causes. Lead investigator Dr Paolo Prandoni says the link warrants further study of shared risk factors and potential prevention with cholesterol lowering or anti clotting therapies.
