Fed Injects 1.2 Trillion to Avert Recession
Minutes from the March 17 18 meeting show the Federal Reserve expanding its balance sheet by 1.2 trillion to lower rates and spur demand. Officials approved up to 300 billion for long term Treasuries and 750 billion in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac mortgage securities as GDP growth projections were trimmed for 2009 and 2010.
