A North Augusta couple James Early Ritchie 43 and Mary Faye 19 son David Earl were rushed to University Hospital in Augusta with head injuries and lacerations after an early morning attack using an unknown sharp instrument. Another son Mark 17 and daughter Carla 15 unharmed. Sheriff Grant said no motive or suspect yet and no forced entry evident at 1086 Oakhurst Dr. Ritchie manages Bath Seminole Mills subsidiary of United Manufacturers.

A naval blockade or mining of oil ports was hinted to bar oil sales to nations like Germany and Japan. Iranian militants holding 50 hostages in Tehran warned of death if force is used. Foreign minister Ghotbzadeh said Iran would counter Iraqi troop mobilization along the border.
President Carter publicly urged Prime Minister Begin to honor the Camp David promise of full autonomy for Palestinians in Israeli occupied territories. He spoke at a White House dinner with Anwar Sadat after day one of talks, as Sadat affirmed pursuit of a comprehensive settlement and readiness to transfer authority.
