Jaycees from across South Carolina gather in Abbeville on Sunday to aid the tornado damaged town. They collect clothing furniture food and other supplies for victims and accept donations at the Chamber of Commerce and Jaycee Hut location on Highway 1.
Newsweek reports an unnamed source says James W. McCord will claim Mitchell ordered the June 17 raid after viewing photographs from the Democratic National Committee offices. McCord would say Liddy and Hunt told him Mitchell cleared the plan and approved a $300,000 budget. Mitchell denies involvement.
American warplanes pounded Mekong gunners to push a convoy to Phnom Penh. Three tankers and two cargo ships reached the isolated city while two ships were lost and 11 captains abandoned the voyage from Saigon. Master C S Lo of the Lucky Star said planes flew as close as 1000 feet ahead to clear the way.
Communist forces fired on two peace keeping helicopters in the Me Kong Delta. One helicopter carrying the Joint Military Commission members landed at Vi Thanh with no injuries. The other chopper carrying ICCS delegates near Can Tho was not hit. The ICCS includes Canada Indonesia Poland and Hungary.
South Vietnam President Nguyen Van Thieu and his wife flew by helicopter to the Vatican for an audience with Pope Paul VI as riot police cordoned off St. Peter's Square.
