A 5-year-old Aiken girl was placed under emergency protective custody after her school alerted police to dangerous home conditions including exposed wiring and holes in the floor. Officers found the child disheveled, with a bed shared by parents on the floor and a vomit-stained sheet nearby as they inspected the residence.

Lynn Marie Baxley 31 of Grovetown Georgia pleaded guilty to six counts of ill treatment of animals and awaits trial on a felony animal cruelty charge after Aiken County officers seized 115 animals from Lynn's Exotic Pets in North Augusta on March 18. Baxley remains jailed on a 5000 dollar bond while facing fines restitution and other costs. An emaciated dachshund was found in a filing cabinet drawer during the seizure.
