More highway funds promised in Southeast visit
Transportation Secretary Rodney Slater toured South Carolina on Tuesday, saying the federal highway bill now in Congress will bring higher funding. He noted SC’s gas tax receipts rise from about 227 million to nearly 400 million and presented Charleston with a 160000 check to buy four wheelchair lift vans for Tel A Ride. He stressed paratransit’s importance and future wheelchair lifts for buses. Slater also showcased a Futrex monobeam train model, amid plans for a 33 million prototype in North Charleston, and then went to Orangeburg to sign a statewide transportation partnership with Felton Laboratory School at SC State University.
