Fire alert lifted in Midlands as rain eases South Carolina blaze risk

Rain reduced fire danger across the Midlands and Piedmont, lifting the red flag warning there while eight Upstate counties remain under alert. The Forestry Commission says winter-killed vegetation and dry conditions kept Upstate counties at risk as more than 600 fires burned over 5000 acres in March.
