Snow Chief Extends Winning Streak In California Derby

Snow Chief, earning $945,740 last year and 1 719 040 lifetime, became the youngest horse to top $1 million in career earnings with the California Breeders’ Championship at Santa Anita on Jan 12. Iey Groom piloted by Eddie De lahoussaye paid 5 and 3 20, winning $100,000. Ferdinand ridden by Bill Shoemaker was third, one length behind, paying show. Big Play finished fourth as Snow Chief pulled away after the stretch run. All seven entries carried 122 pounds, four less than the Kentucky Derby weight. Snow Chief’s streak began with the Hollywood Futurity on Dec 15.
