Update planned to widen Hitchcock Parkway by ARTS review
The South Carolina Subcommittee of the Augusta Regional Transportation Study will revisit conceptual Hitchcock Parkway designs next month. Kevin Gantt of SCDOT says edited plans will be presented for comments, guiding ARTS meetings and a potential fall public hearing. Plans show a narrower 5 to 6 mile corridor, added multi use paths, reduced center median, retaining walls in places, and a 19 acre cut in right of way. Aiken City Council kept the 45 mph speed limit. SCDOT must secure a municipal agreement with Aiken and clarify funding flow and potential phase adjustments before widening proceeds.
