I-20 Link Between North Augusta and Augusta Opens Fifty Years Ago
The April 3 1967 ribbon cutting marked the opening of 14 miles of I-20 linking North Augusta to Augusta with 150 miles of I-20 now in operation from Columbia to Atlanta. South Carolina figures show the final five miles in Aiken County are the busiest county road since 2006. Local officials praised the interstate for economic growth including Bridgestone in Graniteville and urban development along the corridor.
