The Standard is switching from Compugrahpic to Atex and will have a somewhat different look. The goal is a full transfer soon and standardized typefaces across the newspaper.
Mastercard International and Visa U S A announce a joint warning bulletin starting in October to alert merchants about lost stolen and counterfeit cards. Consolidating reports could save up to 5 million dollars and they are exploring shared operating rules coordinated security efforts and technology enhancements.
The Aiken County Legislative Delegation will meet the Aiken County Board of Education at 8 p.m. Monday to discuss proposed legislation for a separate North Augusta Belvedere school district. The meeting takes place at South Aiken High School.

Tickets 2.50 in advance, 3 at gate. under six admitted free. Sponsors include Stroh's, Body Talk, Tri-City Redi-Mix, and WBBQ.
Fortune magazine places Exxon as the top industrial company in 1984 with sales of 90.9 billion dollars. General Motors rises to second with 83.9 billion, narrowing the gap from 14 to 7 billion. Chrysler enters the top 15 for the first time in seven years, while AT&T debuts at eighth after divestiture.
Brisk winds and dry weather scorch thousands of acres across South Carolina prompting Gov. Dick Riley to declare a state of emergency and enforce a statewide burning ban. Officials report 12,000 fires burning nearly 100,000 acres with 33 fires still active and several large blazes approaching containment.
Exxon in New York leads with $90.85 billion in 1984 sales followed by General Motors in Detroit at $83.89 billion and Mobil in New York at $56.05 billion. Ford in Dearborn and Texaco in White Plains show changes in ranking with IBM, Du Pont, and others close behind.
The March unemployment rate remained at 7.3 percent as 430,000 new jobs were created. About 8.4 million people were jobless and the employment total reached a record 107.1 million, with most gains in services.
