Aiken Horse Show Returns to Hitchcock Woods

The Aiken Horse Show, an 86 year tradition begun in 1916 by Mr and Mrs Thomas Hitchcock, will revive this weekend in Hitchcock Woods. Gail King of the Hitchcock Foundation recalls its former prominence with as many as 300 horses from across the United States, noting war years caused a pause and revival by the Aiken Hounds in the early 1990s.

City resolves to study Hitchcock Woods erosion plan

Aiken City Council members toured Hitchcock Woods to assess stormwater erosion. City Manager Roger LeDue said Woolpert will study drainage and a phased plan will follow. Officials from the City County State Highway Dept and Hitchcock Foundation must agree on funding and methods including possible gabion barriers.
