1 5 Million Missed In Census Mailings
The Census Bureau failed to print post office box numbers on about 1.5 million forms, leaving millions without addressable envelopes. Forms sent last week of March could not be delivered by mail and must be delivered by census workers before completion. Gail Kremenec of Westchester Illinois region notes widespread national impact. Judith Petty in Jeffersonville, Indiana confirms many forms are returning by mailbag and the issue persists.

Aiken Council Boosts Sales Tax Plan for Vote
Aiken County Council voted unanimously to raise the sales tax share for property tax rollbacks if voters approve the one cent Local Option Sales tax in the November referendum. The panel added eight percent to the existing 63 percent minimum, delaying decisions on spending the remaining tax revenue to gain broader input. A $319,000 library board gift and land donations were announced for the North Augusta library project. The council also funded three Medicaid caseworkers and planned a fourth for next year, plus three tax office positions to enforce out of state vehicle and mobile home registrations.

He cited time demands, tax and regulatory complexities, and a desire for a smaller business with fewer clients.
