Scientist proposes MOX site repurposing into training center
Dr. Edwin Lyman of the Union of Concerned Scientists suggests turning the MOX fuel fabrication facility at the Savannah River Site into an international training center for nuclear security guards if the MOX program is terminated. He argues the repurposing would bolster global nuclear security and give a viable use to a facility facing scrap-heap prospects. President Obama seeks to halt MOX due to cost overruns and finish concerns, favoring downblending of weapons grade plutonium, a stance opposed by Graham Wilson and other supporters who argue MOX remains important.
