Congressman's son named defendant in fraternity death suits
The son of U S Rep John Carney is among five named defendants in two lawsuits seeking at least 50 million dollars over the September death of Clemson University fraternity pledge Tucker Hipps who fell from a bridge into rocky water at Lake Hartwell. The suits also name two other fraternity members the university and the Sigma Phi Epsilon chapter. The family expressed sympathy and said they hope investigators act on facts. Hipps disappeared September 22 2014 during an early morning run and was later found headfirst in the lake near Clemson. The legal matter is under sheriff and coroner review with no ruling on death yet.
