Shoney's on Whiskey Road in Aiken closed its doors after 26 years at the location. Owner Bear Woodrum said the last public day was Tuesday and the building sale was finalized late Tuesday, with staff of 35 learning of the closure 10 days earlier. He noted the 1984 opening, a 1993 fire, and a 1994 reopening as key milestones.
Abigail Jessica and Madelyn Smith plus three peers painted desert sunset scenes in a three session art class sponsored by Hitchcock Healthcare and the Aiken Center for the Arts. Their works will star in a silent auction at Hitchcock’s Western themed benefit dinner Rising into the Sunset of the Wild West on Friday April 23. Each child keeps one artwork and supports rehabilitation services.
Tim Bradly, Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan, plans a last minute rally this Saturday after accusing Burnettown officials of dishonesty over a denied park permit. He says the event will proceed with or without permits, with attendance encouraged after a change of location to Clearwater.
