Quiet South Carolina hamlet shaken by widow's death
In Sandy Run South Carolina Mary Sue Merchant died alone in a locked 25 acre home. Her 18 month absence went unseen as the house was sold for back taxes and her body lay inside. Neighbors and local officials debate community ties and neglect while deputies monitor local seniors. The case highlights rural isolation and the need for neighbors to check on elders.
