City Election Sees GOP Sweep in Aiken Races
Voters elected three Republicans over two Democrats for the Aiken City Council last week. Democrats James Jones Jr and Stephen Surasky carried downtown precincts 2 and 4, while Republicans Robert S Perry Michael Anaclerio and Howard Hickey Jr won in white, middle class precincts 1 3 6 20 and 47. Close results appeared in precinct 5, and low turnout showed in precincts 35 52 and 53. Surasky blamed better GOP organization and a critique of the L Reactor restart at SRP for the loss.
