E M Smith pledges a ten dollar cash prize for the best essay on The Present Tariff and its Effects Upon the farmers of the Middle West. Any high school student may compete, with essays due to Supt Pointer by January 1, 1915. The community thanks Mr Smith for this generous incentive to study and writing.
The Whitestown High School is recommissioned for the present school year. Trustee Stewart of Worth Township has received the commission after prior removal amid a school fight and controversy over a new building. The State Board, after review, issues the commission for one year only.
In Jamestown the Jackson township nonpartisan group nominated John N Heath for trustee as the Citizens' Ticket moves to depoliticize local offices. George Zimmerman urged Heath's acclamation. Democrats' March nominees were contested for other offices, potentially shaping Boone county politics.
Happily Married Frank Leroy Lockridge and Elsie Nowel Sparks tied the knot at the Methodist parsonage Wednesday afternoon officiated by Rev Oakes Hall. They arrived in an Advance automobile with Mr and Mrs C C Ewen, the bride and groom live near New Ross and will reside with the bride's father David Sparks.
Miss Bertha A Butler married Ernest Huber of near Thorntown on Wednesday afternoon in the Farmers State Bank of Lebanon with Rev Homer Dale officiating. Friends extend congratulations and best wishes to the couple.
County agents and Purdue Agricultural Extension lead a seed corn selection drive in Boone County on October 5 9. Farmers are urged to harvest ears from their best stalks as soon as ripe, dry them properly, and avoid long piles to prevent sprouting or mildew. The guide emphasizes natural drying and selecting seeds from plants that thrived in competitive stands.
Rev Harrington lectured on clean living and warned students about cigarette use. Superintendent Pointer reports progress on the Curtain test. Jackson Township Institute meets at the High School Assembly Hall next Saturday. Basketball organizes four teams. first game 15 12 win for Caplinger. A High School play is planned with auditions and stage setup underway. Visitors include Misses Lutha Yager Icene Caldwell and Walter J Barr.

One of the season’s largest family gatherings, the Nelson reunion, occurred at Old Union Church with 175 relatives, many traveling from afar. A sumptuous churchyard dinner followed, with William and George Nelson and Cleo Coombs performing on violin and piano. The five generation group included Elizabeth Heath, Jennie Canada, William Canada, Noble Canada, and Ernest Canada, with a photo of the clan. Elizabeth Heath was the eldest, over 86.
The final band concert of the season was held Saturday evening to a large audience. The boys performed splendidly and many expressed regret that the concert is ending. They will likely be urged to resume the weekly concerto early next summer.
W P Kibbey was chosen as a delegate to represent the Western Indiana Christian Conference at the American Christian Quadrennal Convention in Springfield Ohio October 13 to 20. About 800 delegates from America Japan Puerto Rico and South America will attend. Mrs Kibbey will also attend for the mission department of the Woman's Name and Foreign Mission Board.
Hazelwood Morgan Shelley and family joined Lige Smart in Frankfort while San Caplinger rents his mother's farm near Shiloh Corser for another year. Miss Bertha DeBard of Edmore Michigan visited relatives here last week. Nova Billingsly and Edna Edrington dined with W H Parr in Lebanon. Mary Billingsly visited her grandparents J Knox and wife. In Indianapolis, Mrs Amanda Lafaire hosted Mre Lou Caplinger Samuel Caplinger and families M M Edrington R D Billingsly M Z Billingsly and Miss Bertha De Bard of Edmore Michigan.
