Dick Sumpter dies in auto crash west of Lebanon
Dickson B. Sumpter 21, a Cherokee heritage youth, was killed when a Ford driven by him lost control six miles west of Lebanon. Nickelson survived with minor injuries as the car rolled several times. Sumpter, born in Oklahoma May 1 1899, was raised by relatives in Jefferson Township after his mother died. He had attended Lebanon High School and aspired to military service but failed due to eye injury. He is survived by three brothers in Oklahoma and was mourned at a service held at the Sumpter home with burial at Ox Hill.

Mrs Clarence Smith died at home in Pitts on May 17 1918 after years of ill health from tuberculosis She was born September 28 1881 in Jamestown Indiana daughter of James and Mary Farrow She married Clarence E Smith March 20 1902 and had three children two of whom survived Funeral services were at Brownsburg M E Church with burial at Mt Tabor Cemetery She leaves a husband a daughter a son and siblings among others and a large circle of friends

Great Day Sunday draws record crowds in Jackson township area
A Great Day Sunday in Jackson township saw seven schools. Union and The Advance Methodist Schools broke May records with high attendance and enthusiasm. The Afternoon Jubilee met high attendance despite heat. offerings and campaign expenses were detailed. Local marriages, visiting officials, and large crowds at Jamestown and Union events were noted along with performances by the Rusty Hinge quartet and Emmerson E Ballard.
