Lying in State and the Vault of Colonel Capel
In a dim death chamber, Paul Capel and companions observe Colonel Capel's ornate resting place and a secret iron vault built as mausoleum and strong room. Ramo and the lawyer Mr. Girtle reveal a hidden treasure chamber with jewels and notes, while tensions among Katrine Lydia Artis and others mount amid warnings of enforcement and danger. The night ends with a frantic wakeful note as the butler reports possible murder.
