A Studebaker valued at $600 burned near Pleasant View church after James Clifton lit a lamp and used too much gas with a wrench. The explosion damaged the vehicle. the rest was junked. No insurance coverage was noted.
David McClellan and wife attended the funeral of Walter Sharpe at Bover on Monday. George Gill’s neighbors surprised him with a social gathering Tuesday night. Sugar and syrup were shared and fudge made. Wm. Ford and family visited Bert Smiley Sunday. Harold Lane, recently arrived from the border, had a brief visit due to the new troop call. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Shields moved to Pittsboro to be closer to his milk firm work.
A Friday afternoon tornado struck Jesse Em mert near North Salem wrecking the dining room and roofless the house. Water entered furniture beds and a piano, causing considerable damage. No one in the family was injured. The farm is owned by Grant Riley of Thorntown.
Walter Sharp son of Robert Sharp of eastern Boone County was buried at Dover on Monday. He first served in the Boone County militia then joined the regular army and served on the border. It is not known if his death was foul play or suicide. The Sharp family lived for years where Walter McDaniel now resides.
In Mt Zion neighbors circulate papers urging trustees to grant use of the old school house to the Ladies Aid Society for a work room and community meetings. The area seeks better quarters as the church lacks basement or spare rooms for events. Dover Walnut Grove and Frogs Glory are noted as nearby examples.
The tenant house on the Davis farm near Walnut Grove burned Sunday morning. Cris Johnson and family occupied it. Johnson tended the barn when the fire started, Mrs. Johnson was bedfast, and a neighbor alerted them. The blaze drove the family from the home as flames consumed eight rooms and furniture. Insurance was carried on the house and contents.

The Commercial Club held a productive meeting Monday at Walls' Furniture Store. Lyceum and entertainment committee reports were approved. May first week set for cleaning painting scrubbing and tearing down unused sheds and barns to remove rat harbors. S. Z. Billingsly joked about elevators needing brains versus Ford needing gasoline. J. W. Waters family and Mrs. W. F. Baldwin with Verla Alice Hurt had dinner with Glen Waters and family.
John Weldon and company own a new Chevrolet automobile. Alva Cora and family visit Robert Adams and family near Max. Ollie Hamilton removes an old barn to improve looks. Mrs Earl Darnell and son visit Whitestown parents. Dinner guests included H F Merchant and wife Jeanette, Margaret Sandlin, Alva Nisley, and families from Lebanon and Indianapolis. A Mon tana trip for Canada, a letter to the Hustler, and a convention at Concord discuss teacher requirements and Christ as Great Teacher.
Fred Riner of Chicago was at home over Sunday. The daymakers put up two loads of hay Monday night. Mark Wall and family visited Mr. and Mrs. N E Ailes Sunday. Chas Farlow and family visited Sunday with relatives near Bainbridge. James Gordon spent Tuesday with Jesse Emmett and family near North Salem. John Plunkett and family spent Saturday night and Sunday with Mrs. Plunkett's mother near Jamestown. Mr. and Mrs. J D Emmett and gon Lowell ate dinner with Mr. and Mrs. C O Powell Tuesday. G H Waters will spend part of his summer wages remodeling his residence. The depot rest room, office, and furniture received two coats of paint and look inviting. John Emmert transacted business.
A farmer reports winter poultry output with 142 eggs in January 241 in February and about 900 in March. He keeps 75 chicks and 13 hens on eggs and has no use for an incubator at the barn or house. John advertised seed corn in Hustler and Lebanon Reporter and sold all in 24 hours.
The Honor Roll adds Charles Anderson of New Ross and others including A. B. Martin of Lebanon and E. M. Smith. Sam Underwood of Kremlin and Mont. Fred Riner, Carmen Ross, and Porter appear among community lists. The Advance Telephone Company upgrades its small wagon to a black Ford mobile.
