Local residents report visits to New Ross Crawfordsville Lebanon and Whitestown. A mid winter teachers meeting occurred in Lebanon. Community plans include school building talks and coal and hardware notices.
The Advance Alumni staged A daughter of the desert last Saturday night. The western play featured strong home talent with Verna Cornelius and Witbue Deatrick delivering standout comedy. Proceeds totaled 4760 and the show will travel to Litton Saturday night.
Notice of a special session of the Advance Indiana Board of Trustees at the Town Building Boone County to order an election on bonds to establish an electric lighting plant. Meeting set for 7 30 p m Friday February 14 1913. James R Sullivan president and Fred Thompson clerk attest.
The Basket Bardale game scheduled for next Saturday night is canceled. The Iscal boys will now play a strong Thorntown team at that venue.
The subject grew up on farms in Cumberland County and worked in Brazil and Fontanet mines. He taught school in Valparaiso, studied at Danville, and read law in Spencer. Admitted to the Owen County bar in 1886, practiced in Lebanon from 1887, married Jennie Cravens in 1889, and served as presidential elector in 1892. He ran for secretary of state unsuccessfully in 1896 and 1898, led the Lebanon school board, and was elected governor in November 1912, with inauguration January 13, 1918.
Governor Ralston agrees to exchange his North Meridian Street property and a forty acre farm for Charles A. Hedge's sixteen acre farm in Jackson township. Hedge will move to Lebanon and occupy the Ralston property. Ralston keeps a vacant lot near his residence. If he returns in four years he plans to build there.
Boone County fanciers L C Caldwell of Lebanon route 11 Howard Riley of Thorntown and Robt Bruce of Advance were among winners at the Lafayette Poultry show held Jan 6 to 11 Caldwell took Buff Orpingtons several top placements and cup for best display Riley won top bantams and best display of Buf Rocks Brues led White Rocks with multiple top placings and best display White Rock class was the largest with about 60 entries.
Carmon Caplinger won first place in the Boone County Oratorical Association contest with the eight dollar prize and bronze cup awarded to the winning high school. Alva Wyncoop and Glen Markland followed in the boys division while Juanita Rigsdale Esther Brouchard Aretha Harting and Tausita Coolman led the girls entries. Many representatives performed well though Lebanon High School supporters criticized the unanimous decision as undeserved.
High School notes review visits by Chas Fulwider and Jesse Prats leaving the campus. A grand Monday celebration awarded the trophy cup from the contest to the High School with speeches by faculty, representatives, and yell leaders. Seniors and Juniors joined in cheering as the pennants were presented and future rejoicing anticipated.
Attendance report notes 77 present for Sunday School with $1.77 collected from 273 chapters. Total points 480. The King's Boys lead with 198 points. Chester Ce cil Broshar birthday offering noted. Request to enroll all pupils for Sunday 10 o'clock to make a banner day.
Attendance last Sunday was 112 with 2.20 collected and 50 bibles. Willing Workers meet the first Saturday afternoon monthly. Sunday School every Sunday at 10. Preaching every second and fourth Sunday both morning and evening. Lesson next Sunday discusses am I my brother s keeper with a call to attend and share views.

The Shiloh Christian church revival attracts strong attendance despite a week of bad roads and rain. Singing led by Wm Lucas is praised and services run each evening at seven o'clock.
Lebanon residents R13 William Courtnay and wife visited James town couple Jesse Coombs and wife on Sunday. Loyd Bennington and his wife spent Wednesday with George Brindle and family there.
