A shipment of 21 kerosene street lamps arrived and town marshal Siir Whitsett began placing them. Fire posts are painted and two trial lamps were tested near Yager's store and at the railroad crossing. The town now has 23 lights and plans to maintain them nightly with automatic shutoff at eleven.
John R. Peffley reports seeing a star sized light about thirty feet above ground near a barn on two consecutive Sunday and Monday nights. The light hovered and descended slowly to ground each time and vanished, leaving Peffley puzzled by the recurring sighting.
A town foresees a surplus in the treasury encouraging consideration of a suitable lighting system for sidewalks. Officials vow to secure satisfactory results through steady, continuous effort, hoping to improve safety on dark streets.
