Local notes report Mrs Robt Fulwider sick and various relatives visiting in Lebanon Jamestown and Thorntown. A revival ends in Ladoga with 57 additions. The Jamestown Canning Company hires 17 men and 40 women to start tomatoes. A canning accident and horse injury are mentioned along with moving, dinners, and social visits.
Farmers in Boone County woke to a 3:30 a.m. storm signal and heavy showers delaying threshing until noon. The unusually wet weather is costing farmers hundreds of dollars in this and nearby counties, a contrast to last year’s drought when no rain fell and crops were parched. Many threshing crews pressed on Sunday, saving some grain in various rings.
The Advance Jamestown New Ross and Mt. Zion Sunday Schools held their annual picnic at Ballard Grove last Thursday with three to four hundred attendees hampered by threshing and bad weather. A noon picnic dinner followed by a 2 30 meeting elected officers: President Charles Robn Advances Vice President Grant Dayton Jamestown Secretary Ida Buechler Treasurer Carl Bratten New Ross. The treasury stood at 350. Rev. M. H. Appleby Lebanon spoke on S S work with brief addresses by Rev. Wayne Nicely Indianapolis and Rev. Hargrave Jamestown. The gathering adjourned to meet next August.
The Boone County Sunday School Convention meets in Jamestown Christian church on Tuesday September 3 with free dinner and supper at the I O O F hall. Delegates from each school attend for a day of talks, reports, music, and several addresses by Prof Tailor Rev Graham and others promising a highly interesting program.
A call urges every man to register on September 6 sixty days before the election. It rejects the idea that old county residents need not register and stresses that no one has an excuse to avoid registration and that neighbors should ensure each other is properly registered.
Attendance at North Christian Sunday School last Sunday was 126 with collections totaling 2.56 and 35 bibles distributed.
The eighty second session of the Western Indiana Christian churches convened at Linden Wednesday for three days. The conference comprises forty one churches with attendees from the area including Lora Mc Claine and wife Frank Riner and wife John Weldon and wife Wm Johnson and wife Frank Gregory and wife Rev Kibbey and wife Mrs Carrie Beaver Mrs Kate Jackson and Mrs Mollis Mangus.
Scott Sumpter loses three valuable horses and two more fall ill after foundering on stored wheat. Five horses became sick after breaking into a house and consuming grain while the family was away. Two of the deceased were a two year old match team, another was four years old. The two under veterinary care are recovering.
Chas Fulwider will depart Wednesday for North Dakota to take a position as a school teacher.
E M Graves trustee of Jackson Two states he will hold office hours every Tuesday at The Bank of Advance and every Friday at Citizens State Bank in Jamestown for public business and inquiries.
