Subpoenaed defense witnesses include T. O. Beck and J. A. Coons, among others, from Leba non. State witnesses Thursday include John Caldwell of Advance and several Jamestown residents.
Crawfordsville’s fresh civic band gave its first public performance Thursday evening at the courthouse carpeted venue. Under director M. Lambiotte the group, formed recently, has held frequent practices and shown potential to handle local musical duties previously managed by out of town bands.

Beginning Monday several station agents on the Central Indiana Railway were moved. A J Gibba resigned the Advance agency and will relocate to Michigan while F M Merchant moves from Joligtville to Advance. Vera Harshbarger of Lebanon, formerly a Brazil office clerk, will take the Jolietville agency. The railroad owners implement retrenchment, laying off most local agency staff, with W S Neely and wife handling Lebanon station business.
In Jackson township Advance meeting Republicans chose Neal Day as delegate to the state convention in Indianapolis on April 22 with Marion Craver as alternate. Progressives from the same area selected Oskel Hall as delegate to their state convention in the capital city this week with George Canada as alternate.
An Ag Dixon milkman was fined when he watered his milk by error rather than his horse. A Polo woman has five marriages, all to men named William, and is a regular Bill collector. A September girl is foretold to be fortunate in marriage while a September boy will marry a girl.
The Advance Band earns attention from two to three nearby towns seeking weekly performances. A Commercial Club committee Caplinger Weldon and Brown raised funds to insure summer concerts. They aim to start May first or May second with a kickoff on May 2 if donors approve.
The graduation exam and the seventh Geography exam for the north side township will be held Saturday at the school building. Geography will be given at one o clock. Those who failed to obtain exemptions in Geography should take the examination at that time.
The race is not always to the swift but the man who starts first gains a clear advantage as momentum shapes early outcomes.
The focal high school will close Tuesday April 28 with final exams and graduation events. The Junior reception for Seniors is Saturday April 25 at the school. Baccalaureate is Sunday April 28 at 2 P M at the Christian Church led by Rev O F Hall. Commencement at Advance Christian Church features Harry Bowser on The Philosophy of Fun. Barnard orchestra of Indianapolis will provide music. Alumna Banquet Friday May 1 closes the festivities. Class honors six graduates: Lutha Yager Sylvan Yager Hezel Shahan Juanita Coolman Caldwell and Everett Fink.
Sunday School attendance 39 and offerings $138 noted. Two birthday offerings for Helen Sendlin and Mary Aon Airhart. Ora Emmert named delegate to state convention at Shelbyville May 26 28. Ladies Auxiliary to meet at Mrs Isaac Wells on April 23. Public invited.
Attendance at Sunday School last Sunday was 125 with collections of 25 dollars. Two new cradle roll names Nettie Nova McCabe and Lester Earl Whitely. Willing Workers meet at 2 30 Saturday. Verna Cornelius sang an Easter solo and a quartet performed at night with high appreciation.
The entire collection from last Sunday was donated to the National Benevolent Association. The note highlights the cause as worthy and encourages ongoing contributions to support the organization.
There will be no preaching next Sunday but on Sunday April 26 the pastor will resume the bi weekly order of service. The New Ross morning service will welcome new members and Dr Ssazenby will lead teaching followed by the Lord's Supper. An Easter concert last Sunday drew high praise for the youth performers and the concert committee led by Mr Doty and Mrs Caldwell and Mrs Hall is credited for their hard work and church decorations.
Mrs Rosa Riner called on her brother Harvey Wall Sunday afternoon. W P Ray and family spent Sunday at Tom McLaughhlin. Edith Canada was taking exultation in this neighborhood Monday. Mrs Roach Dean and sons were in Lebanon Monday. Carrie Beaver and Margaret spent Thursday eight with relatives in Maca. Lawrence Riner works for Lew Caldwell near Dover Station. Cordelia Caldwell called in home folks Monday night. Several farmers are rescw ing their clover seed after the freeze. Perry Ray sold a young horse to Mr Allen of Indianapolis Saturday. Roy Greham and family of Lax visited Gid Smith and family Sunday. Sunday visitors at Isaac Shelley's were Lon Steward family Abe Shelley and wife and Mrs Dean and children. Maude Whitely spent the first of the week with B M McClaine and family. Mrs Lee Owens visiting sister Mrs J F River. Dona Sutton in Lebanon Tuesday. M M Edrington has a new Auto. Orville Riner spent Tuesday evening with Earle Ray. Little Mary Caplinger staying with grandmother spent Friday night at home. Vesper Edrington purchased a horse of Charlie Blunk Saturday.
A planned pound party for Mrs Nancy Kincaid on North Main Street was canceled when she was needed at her sister’s bedside in Lynnsburg. Donations left at local stores were received Wednesday morning and she thanks friends and neighbors for their generosity.
