Notch House Destruction And Slippage Along Notch Road
A disaster struck Notch House near the eastern Notch where the mountain rises about three thousand feet. Debris filled the road and river for half a mile south of the house, knocking in the barn and killing Mr Wylley and presumably his five children and two hired men. Bodies of the men found about sixty yards from the house. others not yet located. The family had lived in Fryeburgh and were well regarded. The house stood six miles from other habitation. both road approaches were blocked by landslides and floodwaters at night around I o'clock.
