From New Brunswick report notes 1827 arrivals show 25 vessels carrying 3010 people, average 123 per vessel. The present season records 1921 arrivals in 16 vessels, about 130 per vessel, many in poverty heading to the United States. Also described is Washington’s Capitol moonlit promenade with a “Land of Promise” view and a tranquil riverbank scene.
In France a five member medical commission is named to examine plague in the Levant. Among the appointees are Messrs Parisot and Champollion. The commission is chosen by the Ministers of the Interior and Foreign Affairs. Accident: David Goodrich of Glastonbury Connecticut was thrown during wrestling on the 21st ull and broke his neck, dying the next day.
The National Intelligencer doubts British politicians underestimate American desire to acquire Canada and the United States may already be ample in extent. A Boston petition claims nine petitioners own forty nine thousand five hundred two parts of seventy five thousand parts of three quarters of an acre in Dedham and seeks division.
On March 28 1828 the House resolved that no bill to lay out a state road or to create a turnpike railroad bridge canal or navigation company shall be reported unless notice of the intended application was published in at least one newspaper in each interested county for one month prior or in the nearest county if no local newspaper exists.
