An archaic verse fragment presents personified time asking sages, a dying dial, the sun and seasons for wisdom. They answer that time governs life and destiny, urging living in the present, while a final divine proclamation declares time will cease.
An illustrated fragment recounts battles with Green attacking at Eutaw Springs on September 8 and Putnam at Stamford with militia and cannon. It notes skirmishes, two near forts, a civil exchange over tobacco, and a dramatic retreat with Greene’s division.
The account recalls Major Burnet losing a queue at battle with Greene and a sequence of British searches for two cannon hidden by schoolboys in a Boston gun-house. The guns were carried into a classroom, removed by a large boy in a trunk, stored under a master’s desk, hidden for a fortnight, then moved to an American camp.
