Unfortunate keelboat disaster near Staiverreen Illinois
April 4 keel boat Good Luck owned by Col William S Hamilton struck a log in the Sangamon river about thirty miles below Staiverreen. One bottom plank burst and water flooded the boat causing it to capsize on its side. Major Kibbin his son and Mr Kline drowned. Mrs Kibbin and two children survived with aid from crew and passengers. Dr Philleo narrowly escaped. Major Kibbin, a recent immigrant and former U Randingvale veteran, is named among the deceased.
