A 1830s Baltimore influenced assembly denounces the Bank of the United States and supports Andrew Jackson. The group condemns bank monopolies, calls for a national convention to nominate presidents, and endorses actions against financial elites while urging unity among freemen and fellow citizens.
On March 25 1834 Mr Cray stated that Bank of Maryland stopped payment and that a run occurred on the bank in Baltimore. He claimed a close tie to the Union bank and Treasury deposits with the secretary reportedly a stockholder, alarming Senate members about national stability.
A large Gettysburg gathering on March 22 1835 appointed Daniel Suefter as President with McDivit Caldwell Reid Everitt as vice presidents and Lyon McClean as secretaries. A committee led by Andrew G Miller reported resolutions urging unity, consultation, and the right of free men to speak and act in support of liberty and the nation’s prosperity.
A Harrisburg fragment references a Saturday meeting to display much civic zeal for liberty and chartered rights. It notes the departure of public funds from the Bank of the United States to state banks, criticizing the bank and urging adherence to liberty and equality under the constitution. Names include Daniel Sheffer and others as officials.
