Trial of the Downey case reveals jurors bias and verdicts
The trial details a charge against Rev. Downey, a priest of Sivantyn, with allegations of coercion and marriage demands involving a young employee. Jurors delivered multiple verdicts varying from acquittal to long prison terms while noting public sympathy and potential overreach in prosecution. Nearby items report a discernibly separate Batavia shooting and a sensational elopement tale, plus a murder–suicide case in Indiana.
